Dr. William T. Franz

Dr. William T. Franz is Professor of Physics at Randolph-Macon. A native of Philadelphia, PA, Franz received his Bachelor of Science degree in physics and mathematics from Muhlenberg College, and his Masters and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Delaware.

At Randolph-Macon, Dr. Franz teaches a variety of courses in physics and in the environmental studies program. Physics courses include

• A Hitchhiker's Guide to Physics
• Analog Electronics
• Digital Electronics
• Atmospheres and Weather
• Solid State Physics

Dr. Franz teaches a course in Alternate Energy Sources in the Environmental Studies program, and he is a member of the environmental studies council.

Dr. Franz' research interests include

• physics education
• radiation effects in solids
• instrumentation
• solar and other
• alternate energy sources
• physics of sports.

Dr. Franz has supervised recent student senior projects on

• the physics of basketball
• measuring direct and indirect insolation
• constructing and evaluating solar collectors
• radiation damage in high temperature superconductors.
