Professor Clark joined Randolph-Macon's Mathematics Department in Fall 2008. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of California, San Diego, and received his B.S. in math and astrophysics from Tufts University.

His current research focus is low-dimensional topology, specifically quantum topological invariants and knot theory. The recently-developed and rapidly growing field of Khovanov homology for tangle cobordisms is of particular interest. Khovanov's theory provides a powerful tool for studying knotted strings in 3-space, but also their higher-dimensional cousins: knotted surfaces in 4-space.
