Singing Technique

Follow the guidelines below when singing to make sure your voice stays healthy.

bulletRelax. Tension in the arms, legs, neck, and face will eventually cause tension in the larynx
bulletThe larynx should be relaxed when singing. As air enters the lungs, the larynx moves down a bit. (You can feel this by placing your hands over your Adam's Apple). The larynx should not rise when singing higher and higher pitches
bulletKeep air flowing steadily when singing
bulletRelax the jaw. Allow it to drop at the temporal-mandibular joint, but do not allow it to push forward
bulletHold the head upright, but keep it relaxed
bulletBack and shoulders should be straight but not tense
bulletDo not lock your knees. This causes tension, reduces blood flow, and can cause fainting
