Larynx

  • Commonly called the voice box
  • Suspended in the throat by a series of muscles
  • Suspends from the hyoid bone at the top
  • Connects to the trachea at the bottom by the cricoid cartilage
  • A valve between the trachea and the root of the tongue
  • 4 main cartilages: cricoid, thyroid, 2 arytenoids, and the epiglottis
  • The space inside the larynx is called the laryngeal tube
